How You Can Use Casual Area Rugs For Home Decor

How You Can Use Casual Area Rugs For Home Decor

Casual area rugs can be used as home decor for different rooms in your home. You will find them in different colors, designs and styles. Once you place them in your home, your rooms will never look the same. The decor in your home will present a warm and cozy atmosphere. People that come to visit will not want to leave.

Casual area rugs are very simple looking. They have the general colors and easy patterns. You will find that some of the designs have a soft and light feel to them. They provide an aura that cannot be explained. You can find different styles, such as geometric patterns, florals and solids, just to name a few.

It is so easy to use these rugs to decorate your home. They can blend in with any of the rooms. They can also be used to keep your floors from getting scratched up or damaged. With so much foot traffic, having them available can also prevent people from slipping and falling on the floor. They are so versatile and they can be used for different things within your home.

You will find these rugs in different sizes that can be customized. They can be customized even more when you choose various shapes such as oval, rectangle, or square. Of course, there are more shapes than these. This is just to let you see the possibilities when you are looking for these pieces to decorate your home.

The rugs are made from wool, silk, cotton and other materials. The sturdier and reliable these materials are, the longer that they will last in your home without the usual wear and tear. With the higher grades of material, you will have to maintain them on a regular basis. Even with the less costly ones, you still need to take care of them.

The casual style rugs can mix in with other styles. If the decor in your home is not suitable, you can change it to make it blend in. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get everything just right.

If you need help, you can look online to find casual rugs that would suit the rooms in your household. You don’t have to deal with the massive crowds in the brick and mortar stores. Plus, you can look at all of the offerings in the comfort of your own home.

Greg Garner represents the area rugs industry and offers a wide variety of rugs including the momeni new wave collection.

8 Simple and Cheap Home Decorating Ideas You Don’t Want to Miss

When it comes to home interior decorating there are many great ideas out there for you to try out at home. With some simple and not to mention cheap ideas, you can give your home an instant update. Try out the following cheap home decor ideas for your home.

1) If you have a workspace and own some floating shelves, you can easily give this area a new breath of fresh air just by using wallpaper. Use cheap wallpaper to cover the shelves and you’re workspace will look brand new.

2) If you have an area near the window, you can easily place little pots of house plants, herbs and even grass to make the window area more attractive. This simple idea just needs some little pots and some simple plants that you may already have at home. Just look at what you already own and adapt from there.

3) How about creating some shelves where you can display some of your favorite things. You can simply stack a few sturdy wooden benches and you get instant shelves. You can purchase these plain benches and stack them up wherever you need them.

4) An easy way to add country charm and a rustic appeal to your bookshelves is to simply add paper doilies along the edges. It will look pretty and feminine and very attractive.

5) Another idea is to use the cozy enclosure of the shelves as a backdrop to small works of art. Little postcards or small reproductions can be framed in inexpensive frames and placed on your shelves. Definitely something that will surprise your guests.

6) How about dressing up your coffee tables? Placing a piece of mirror glass on the surface on the tabletop will create a stunning effect. It will hide any imperfections of the tabletop, like scratches, and will reflect light which will give your living room a dazzling effect.

7) Did you know that those little dried beans can look good on your photo frames? Get some dried beans and glue this onto some wooden frames. A few random frames can look like they belong in a set with these beans around them.

8) Speaking of walls and frames, here is another way to make your own artistic works of art. Remember how as children we were taught how to cut out snowflakes and other designs from papers after folding a square piece of paper repeatedly into a triangle? Well, this simple technique can be used for your home. Cut out some snowflakes or whatever design you fancy from colored paper, then glue this design into a neat arrangement onto a contrasting colored paper. This can be framed for an instant work of art.

Decorating your home and giving it an update here and there is simple and easy to do. Try out some of the above home decoration ideas and you will soon find your own creativity soar.

Alternative and DIY Home Decoration 101 – A Primer

When you’re young and living in an apartment or a dorm, chances are, you can’t do much to make that space feel like your own. Especially if you want to do really interesting, alternative things, and even more so if you don’t have a ton of money. Does this mean you’re bound to live with bare white walls and ugly furniture? Absolutely not! Here are some alternative/ punk/ emo home design tips for the DIY-inclined.

Color and ambience:

Most apartments and dorm rooms come with standard-issue white walls. Boring! Want to add some color, without much hassle? Christmas lights. Truly, there is no easier way to change the color, look, and feel of a room than by using these lights. They’re simple to hang: you can just tack them up around the border of your room’s ceiling. Put all red lights up, and your room will appear to have a red hue to it. You can even put up more than one color, and choose which set to plug in. Blue today, green tomorrow. It’s simple and affordable. To further add to the effect, you can switch the bulbs in some of your lamps to colored “party bulbs.”

Since a lot of emo kids like to have ambient lighting, this is a perfect choice. Even plain white Christmas lights can change the look of a room, without providing too much light.

Floors:

Do you have boring floors? Ugly tiles or nasty carpet? No problem. Buying an area rug can be expensive as anything… but many stores sell large, but affordable bath mats that you can use as smaller area rugs. It may sound strange, but there are plenty of stylish, large bathmats out there to choose from, including ones made of fake fur. Bonus: they’re meant to be slip-proof, and tend to be easier to clean if they get wet than an area rug.

Further, a DIY/punk type could easily buy and cut what is known as remnant carpet to either carpet smaller rooms or to make their own area rugs. The whole idea is to be creative!

Futons:

Did you inherit an old futon that isn’t the nicest ever? Futon covers are expensive, but you can find bed sheets that fit the futon for significantly less money. At “mall punk” stores, the average emo or punk kid could find all kinds of neat things, like Nightmare Before Christmas sheets… and even in the kids’ sections of regular stores, there are plenty of interesting and cute things. Halloween is a great time to seek out things like spider webs and pumpkins; Valentine’s day is great for hearts. Be creative! Throw blankets – usually cheap and made of fleece, are an affordable option to finish out your fun, personalized futon. Oh, and pillows! Don’t forget the pillows! You can usually find them for affordable prices [along with pillowcases of your choice] at major discount stores.

Your kitchen:

Craft store, craft store, craft store! I can’t stress this enough! You can find all kinds of things cheap and ready to customize, at almost any craft store. Storage tins, jars, and containers can be customized to hold anything from spoons and spatulas to food items or napkins. These stores, as well as major discount stores, also usually have affordable towels – though the holidays are a great time to stock up on ones you like. Craft foam can be used to make kitchen [or dining room] place mats – and you can customize them however you want, to boot!

Furniture

While you’re at the craft store, you may notice some unpainted, boring wooden furniture. Or maybe you’ll hit a thrift store and find some hideous looking, but functional, furniture. Your easy solution? Paint. Just buy some paint and sealant [that part is important; it will protect the paint] and make furniture that suits your needs and personality. Want a purple dresser? There’s nothing stopping you! You can paint your DIY furniture with a brush, or en try different techniques, like stencils or sponges, to get different effects or multiple hues.

General supplies:

If you are going to get into alternative and DIY home design, it is important to have some basic supplies:

It is always good to have a bucket and strong cleaner on hand, just in case something spills.

If you’re painting furniture or other items, an inexpensive drop cloth is a good idea. You can use a cheap plastic table cloth or shower curtain liner for this.

Pencils are good for sketching out designs, marking tack holes, or for jotting down measurements. Scissors and a sharp utility blade should also be in your bare basics kit, as should glue. A hot glue gun is great for decorating, especially if you will be adding things like jewels or stones to items [such a plain storage boxes or canisters]. A hot glue gun can also be used for small repairs on wooden items.

In the end, when it comes to having an alternative looking apartment or dorm, without spending money, the trick is to look to the DIY punk and emo ethic and be creative. Once you tap into your creativity, there is really no limit to what you can do!

When it comes to home decoration, it is certainly important to make choices that reflect your personal taste and one-of-a-kind style. But it is possible to take your signature style a bit too far. Here are six sure-fire ways to lose your “decorator of the year” award.

1. Ignore the scale of the room. Nothing looks more out of place than doll-house sized furniture in a grand living room, or a baby grand piano stuffed into a cozy den. The furniture that worked in your old house or apartment may simply be out of scale for the rooms in your new home, so bite the bullet and replace those items with furniture that makes sense.

2. Hang all of your pictures too high. For some reason, most do-it-yourself decorators hang pictures at a height that only works for NBA basketball players. The focal point of the piece of art should be at gallery level, which is generally considered to be at eye-level for an average person who is 5 feet 7 inches tall. If you are hanging a picture to act as an accent piece for a table or lamp, the elements should be within 10 or 12 inches of each other.

3. Display every piece of bric-a-brac you own. In home decorating, more is not necessarily better. If you own a large collection of porcelain rabbits, it can be visually overwhelming to display them all together.. For some reason, an odd number in a grouping is more visually dynamic than en even number, so choose three or five of your favorites rabbits to display in a grouping, and send the rest of your collection into hibernation for awhile. When the seasons change, you can swap out the next group of bunnies.

4. Match everything. Have you ever walked into a room where the flowered wallpaper matched the flowered tablecloth, which matched the flowered seat napkins and the seat cushions? Did it give you a headache? If this scenario describes a room in your house, you may want to replace the busy flowered napkins with a complimentary solid color, and rethink the wallpaper altogether.

The same concept goes for furniture. It is better to have two matching pieces of furniture in a room, paired with a couple of complimentary single pieces. The very best room décor appears to have been carefully collected over a period of years, rather than purchased at Art Van in one fell swoop on a Saturday afternoon.

5. Make it precious. The last major decorating mistake occurs when home decorators try too hard. The result is a room that makes for a great photograph, but lacks any kind of warmth or human appeal. If your guests are afraid to move a sofa pillow for fear of upsetting the tableau, you need to reassess your decorating goals. Perhaps you can swap out the silk pillows for casual linen pillows and make sure there is a comfy place for guests to put their feet up.

By avoiding the five pitfalls described above, you can create a warm and inviting space in which to live and entertain your family and friends. Just remember, when decorating your home, the results should look more like you, and less like the JC Penney catalog.

Looking for rugs is not an easy process. You have to make sure that you are getting the ones that would best complement your home. However, you should not be in a hurry when you are looking for the best ones to decorate your home with.

Before you buy anything, look around at different rugs to see what you like. Since there are so many styles, shapes and colors, you want to get a feel for which ones can provide the rooms in your home with what you are looking for. There are different designs and patterns to choose from.

When you have some in mind, narrow them down to at least the two or three favorite rugs. See how much they cost and know what you can afford. If your initial choices are out of your budget, look for similar models that are less costly.

You want to decorate using rugs that will make the rooms in your home larger and have more space. Some ideas include light or pastel colors, easy patterns and designs without a lot or ornaments and other decorations. You want your rooms to look fresh and airy, bringing a sense of freedom to the atmosphere.

If you want your home decor to have a cozy feel, use colors that are darker and deeper. This will also provide a warm atmosphere for your home. People will feel relaxed once they step into the room and see the deep colors that were used to decorate it.

Patterns that are busy can easily catch a person’s attention. They help bring more insight to the rug. They look better when there is furniture along with color that is subdued along with no patterns.

You can have your furniture as the center of attention. Look for soft-colored rugs and patterns that are low key. If you want, use smaller ones instead of a large one. They should also blend in with the color of the furniture in your home. You don’t want any of the rooms in your home to look so busy where people get dizzy just looking at them.

Having different areas to be the center of attention is unique because the rooms can be looked at in various formats. Regardless of how they are decorated, there will be a renewed focus on using rugs as home decor.

Greg Garner represents the area rugs industry and offers a wide variety of rugs including the kharma ii collection.

About Hawaiian Home Decor

White Pine Model Ready to Go!

Have you ever been to Hawaii? If so, chances are that you have fallen in love with it like so many others who have visited this dream holiday destination.

Unfortunately holidays always come to an end, and then it is “back to normality”.

If you love this very unique place in the South Pacific with its charm and exotic culture and you want to hang on to the very special “Hawaiian Holiday” feeling and enjoy a slice of Hawaii at home, you can actually do so by adding decor items to your interior that will depict Hawaii’s style and icons, and its tropical ambient.

Hawaii is full of contrasts and extremes. It is a place famous for its turquoise bays, white sandy beaches, surf, waving palm trees, exotic collection of birdlife, lush tropical vegetation and balmy sunshine all year round.

If you want home decor out of the ordinary, the Hawaiian theme is right for you. If you want to achieve extravagance, relaxation and a total island getaway, Hawaiian home decor and furniture will bring life into your dreams. To create a Hawaiian hideaway at home you need to look for decor items which can capture Hawaii’s uniqueness, energy and aura in your home.

Adding items like Hula Girls, a Ukulele or the Tiki Statue (which are all icons of Hawaii) to your decor will greatly enhance the Hawaiian feel in your home. Some people believe that having a Tiki item in the house adds a breezy island spirit that makes them feel like they are on vacation all year round. Hibiscus flowers are also one of the icons of Hawaii which you can use to spruce up your Hawaiian home decor. Or think of the Leis, the flower necklace. Hang a few of them on the wall, or have pictures of them throughout the house.

An absolute must when decorating in a tropical/Hawaiian theme are broad leaf plants and any sort of palm trees. Have one or two corners in your living room where you group plants together for a feeling of lushness.

Brighten up your home with bold colors, natural textures and lush greenery and surround yourself with everything Hawaiian to recreate this polynesian ambiance. Bright pinks, pure white, deep green, sunshine yellow are all colors that speak of tropical places. You could paint your walls in green and white and add accents of pink, yellow and orange.

Hawaii is also very well known for it’s surfing qualities. If you love this great sport, go ahead and do add surfing related items to your home decor! Make a wave and transform your special place into a Surfer’s heaven!

Save yourself a plane ticket, get creative and transform your home into a Hawaiian paradise by adding unique Hawaiian and tropical decor!

Updating your home decor on a budget can be a challenge regardless of whether you’re re-doing a single room or several, however, if you’re creative you may find it an exciting challenge.

Because you’re redecorating on a budget, you’ll want to get the most value you can for the money, so it’s a good idea to shop around and use your head to save money and get the best deals you can. You’ll increase the likelihood of discovering reasonably priced home decor items if you do.

Also consider that redecorating your home doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend a lot of money to get the look you want. It also doesn’t require that you replace your home decor all at once. Look at updating your home decor as a satisfying, enjoyable experience instead of a chore to be done with as quickly as possible. As a matter of fact, decorating your home is actually a constantly evolving, work-in-progress which keeps pace with changes to your lifestyle and family.

One of the least expensive ways to update your home decor is by painting the walls and even your furniture a new color. This is an uncomplicated and quick home decor idea which isn’t costly plus, if you aren’t satisfied with the new color, you can simply repaint it. Be brave and try using a more bold color scheme than the usual neutral colors!

Repainting is an incredible means of completely changing the appearance of a room or an old piece of furniture and will only cost a few dollars and a little bit of time to do. Is it possible you have an old forgotten table or chest of drawers languishing in your garage? If so, give it a fresh paint job and perhaps add a stencil design or two. Congratulations, you’ve just given it a brand spanking new life as a focal point in your guest room or living room.

Decorative accessories like toss pillows, throw blankets or a small wall-grouping can be another inexpensive way to update your home decor on a budget. Accessories can be a major asset for any budget redecorating project and have the ability to give your room that designer-look. Next thing you know, you’re relaxing in your recently redecorated home.

So How Does One Go About Cabin Home Decor?

So How Does One Go About Cabin Home Decor?

An interesting aspect of cabin home decor is that different individual elements combine to give your lodge that perfect look. Even more, a few simple changes can make a great cabin home decor. Rustic cabin home decor is an interesting way of designing your lodge. For that, you should include a variety of campy and rustic furniture to impart that cozy, traditional, and rustic look.

The first thing you should do is to remove modern or contemporary items, the opposite of rustics. Do not keep electronic items open, on the contrary conceal them within rustic designed. For example, you can conceal the TV in a wooden cabinet or your CDs in wooden holders. Most sofas fit into a rustic decor, however, try to get away with strangely futuristic designs. On the other hand, prefer wooden tables with sculptures embedded on the sides to make way for metals.

Windows and walls go a long way in imparting a cozy look to your lodge. You can try to cover your windows with plain cotton, canvas with tabbed tops, printed fabric curtain or even plain wood blinds…these are some great ways to lodge home decor. You can also use coordinating fabrics, but for that, you need to do with frilly curtains or valances.

Don’t forget the walls if you are planning a cabin home decor. This does not, however, means that you have to remake your wall. On the contrary, even the ugliest walls can be made to look good with decorative wall art and accessories. Consider adding hunting prints and old advertising signs to your walls to emanate feeling of your lodge design.

Cabin home decor doesn’t necessarily mean huge expenditure. In fact, some very basic and simple changes can surprisingly change the entire appearance of your lodge. If you need to buy, look out for discount deals and offers. Many websites offer unique and fashionable cabin home decor items at affordable prices. A visit to one of them may help you get some better cabin home decor ideas.

Guide to Audio Video Furniture

Townsville West - Superb Craftsmanship

You just bought you new plasma, LCD, DLP, flat panel TV or projector. If you can’t find a proper place to mount on wall or you need to house your audio video components, you will most likely need an Audio cabinet for you components, a TV stand, or base to house both the TV and your home theater components. This guide will tell you all about audio video furniture.

Knockdown vs. Assembled

Most home theater audio video furniture either is KD (knockdown) or assembled in one piece. What’s the difference? KD means that the unit ships un-assembled in pieces and you have to put it together with your time or hire someone to do it. The advantage of KD furniture is that it can usually ship quickly for those people that need to meet a time deadline. The other advantage it usually is less expensive than assembled furniture quality pieces. The quality of KD items varies greatly.  AV furniture first and foremost must be able to handle heavy televisions and components and we believe that KD furniture must be made with MDF, not particle board. A term associated with KD (knockdown) is also RTA (Ready to Assemble). These terms mean the same thing. The customer pays a little less, but has to put the item together on their time. The other small advantage to KD or RTA audio video furniture is that if it gets damaged, replacement parts can be sent to fix the issue readily.

The best quality furniture pieces have furniture “styling” which is made to be sen, not to be hidden in a closet. The hardware on these pieces are of higher quality including hinges and handles. Most assembled furniture is made with MDF with real wood veneers.

Assembled furniture is a convenient option for those with people with little time or patience for assembling furniture. The assembled option in most cases is of higher quality than most KD pieces.. You would need to check the manufacturer as the market is flooded with many importers where quality can vary and the packing of the furniture may be sub standard for shipping on a freight truck.  All assembled furniture is inspected by our delivery centers prior to delivery. This level of quality control does not exist with many other on line retailers. Who you buy from is just as important as what you buy in the world of on line furniture retailers. You should always call the toll free phone number of any web site before ordering assembled furniture. Be sure to check the hours of the web site first before calling. The key consideration is longevity of the company. It’s best to make sure a company has been in business at least 5 years.

Consider the Placement of the Home Theater Furniture

When planning a home theater or media room, you will need to consider where to place your av rack. Will it be hidden from view in a closet, a utility room, a special av cabinet, or piece of furniture. If you are hiding your furniture in a cabinet or closet, consider rotating AV racks that can pull out and rotate.

If you plan to position the mount in the front of your room, you will need to consider a cabinet that has furniture styling, since it will always be in view.

If being placed in the back of room or off to the side, you may consider knockdown options.

Wood or Metal Glass

Furniture construction can vary.  In general, the look you want to achieve comes down to wood or glass. If you like a traditional approach, wood AV furniture may appeal to you. Most choices include black, cherry or oak finish. A maple or walnut finish is available in certain styles. If you prefer a more contemporary look, you may consider a metal glass combination. The glass is typically tempered to make it extremely strong.

Dimensions and Weight Considerations for AV Furniture:

The most common issue with choosing AV furniture is the size. If you are using for a tv stand you will need to find out the width of the TV, not the diagonal measurement. Most manufacturers use diagonal measurements on TV’s versus width measurements, you will need to find this specification to choose the correct tv stand size. The other common measurement needed is interior shelf dimensions. This is very important if you have some oversized av equipment, less important if you have normal components. Last but not least, consider the weight of your television and the weight of your components. The heaviest two pieces are usually the TV and the AV Receiver/Amp. Most top shelf designs of our tv stands can handle up to 250lbs, but check the specs to be sure. The other consideration is the interior shelf load bearing. Some amps can weigh up to 100lbs! It’s best to place the amp on the lower shelf, which is best for weight and sound absorption.

Back Panel Options

Many video tv stands are coming out with back panel options. A back panel allows you to mount a plasma or lcd tv on the panel and run the wires behind it. This makes for ease of installation and a cost savings, since you don’t need an installer to run av cables or electrical. A back panel is an attractive alternative to mounting a plasma on a wall. A static fixed mount will probably be the best option for a back panel. The back panel is also good because the TV is at the viewer’s eye level while sitting down.

What’s in a Name?

Many people search for equipment racks using these terms: Audio rack, video rack, av rack, audio furniture, av furniture, tv stand, television stand or home entertainment center. Generally, a “rack” is knockdown and “furniture” is usually an assembled piece. Be sure to check the details on all products. A name could be just a title that doesn’t accurately describe the piece you are ordering.

Longevity

How long do I want this piece of furniture to last? How long will I be living in current residence? If you are planning on moving to a new location, you may consider a temporary solution versus a more permanent furniture purchase. The “Knockdown” option is good if you are going to move in a couple years. If you plan on living in your current residence longer than 5 years you may consider an assembled av furniture purchase.
